About Body and Life Skills
Self and others starts in preschool with happy, sad, angry and scared, calming down when feelings are big, sharing and taking turns. In grade 4, children learn to name a feeling before acting on it, to say no and hear no, and to make an apology that does its job. Grade 8 covers growing up, pressure and boundaries, and grade 11 prepares for the social involvement volunteering year.
Staying safe begins in grade 1 with stop, look and listen, the zebra crossing and the pedestrian light. Grade 5 covers bicycles and scooters, grade 6 covers privacy, sources and decency online, and grade 11 covers the road before a driver's license, with reaction time and blind spots. Physical education covers movement and games in grade 3 and fitness and team play in grade 8.
