Privacy Notice
This describes exactly what the system stores about you, why, and where it goes. It was written from the code rather than from a template, which is why it also states the parts that are less comfortable to say.

What is stored about an account
Registering stores a name, an email address, a year group and stream, an interface language and a chosen avatar emoji. The password itself is not stored — only a one-way hash of it, from which the password cannot be recovered.
Also stored: when the terms were accepted, the age band given, how many minutes of the free allowance have been used, and the last sign-in time. Failed sign-in attempts are counted too, so an account somebody is trying to break into can be locked.
What is stored about lessons
Every conversation with the teacher is stored in full — both what the teacher said and what the student wrote. That is what lets the teacher carry on from where you stopped, and it is why registration asks for explicit agreement to it.
Answers to exercises and worksheets, results of comprehension checks, and a summary of what each lesson achieved are stored as well. The progress screen is built from those.
If you would rather a conversation were not kept, do not type personal details into it that the lesson does not need. The system does not require a full name, an address, a phone number or any other identifying detail in order to teach.
Where the information goes
So that the teacher can reply, the text of the lesson is sent to the companies that run the language models: OpenAI and Google. Those companies also produce the voice the teacher speaks in. Without that there is no lesson, so there is no way to use the service without the text passing through them.
Operational email — registration confirmation, password reset — is sent through Resend. The database is hosted with Amazon in its Israel region, and the site itself is hosted with Vercel.
Images shown in lessons are loaded from open repositories such as Wikimedia Commons. Videos, where they appear, come from YouTube and are served by it.
What we do not do
We do not sell information and we do not pass it to advertisers. There are no adverts on the site and no advertising trackers in it.
We do not use your conversations to train models of our own. The information is used to run the service for you — to continue a lesson, to show progress, and to fix faults.
Children and parents
The service is for students, including minors. An account for a minor is opened with the knowledge and under the responsibility of a parent or guardian, who may at any time see what is stored, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted.
Deleting an account also deletes the conversations, worksheets and progress records attached to it. Deletion is final and cannot be undone.
Security and retention
Passwords are stored only as hashes. A sign-in uses a token which is also stored as a hash, alongside its expiry, the last time it was used, and the browser it came from — so that you can recognise a session that is not yours.
Information is kept for as long as the account exists. We have no interest in holding the data of a closed account, and it is deleted with it.
Changes to this notice
If what the system does changes, this document and the date at the top of it are updated. A material change — a new service the information is sent to, for instance — will also be shown inside the product and not only here.
