About Arts

Making starts with the colors of the rainbow, mixing two colors, and lines that wiggle, zigzag and curl. In grade 2 children mix the primary colors, tear and glue a collage, and print with a potato and a sponge. Grade 6 brings composition and perspective with one and two vanishing points. High school students can learn photography, design and visual communication, and studio practice for the bagrut portfolio.

Performing starts in grade 3 with pulse, rhythm and listening, including the instruments in Peter and the Wolf. Grade 7 brings reading music notation and playing together, and movement and choreography. Grade 8 adds drama: character, scene and staging. In grade 11, reading a work means the history of art from the Renaissance to Duchamp, and cinema: the shot, the edit and the soundtrack.

Lessi, an AI teacher, teaches every topic live, on a board, out loud, with short quizzes, at the student's pace. A student can also ask Lessi about a painting, a time signature or a film scene. The first 60 minutes are free with an account, and topic pages have free printable worksheets.

Common questions

What ages are the art lessons for?

From age 3 to grade 12. Preschool lessons cover colors, drawing, loud and soft, fast and slow, and keeping the beat. Elementary school brings first marks with line, shape and color, and rhythm and listening. Middle and high school add music notation, dance, drama, photography, design, art history and cinema.

Can my child learn music theory online?

Yes. In grade 3 children find the steady pulse, count beats to the bar and follow a melody up and down. In grade 7 they read the stave and the treble clef, learn note values and time signatures, build the major scale and hear the chords under a melody. Lessi explains each step live and out loud.

Is there help with the art bagrut?

Yes. A grade 12 course on studio practice covers choosing a question a body of work can carry, keeping a workbook, drawing from observation, choosing a medium, the group critique, and editing the portfolio. In grade 11 there are courses on the history of art at five units and on cinema.

Is there photography or film for teens?

Yes. Grade 10 photography covers aperture, shutter and sensitivity, depth of field, framing, natural light and the photographic essay. Grade 11 cinema covers the frame, shot size and camera angle, mise en scene, editing from Eisenstein to continuity, and sound.

Are there free art worksheets?

Yes. Every topic page has free printable worksheets on the same topics as the lessons. The first 60 minutes of lessons with Lessi are free with an account, and Ask Lessi answers questions from the same free minutes.
